Fire fatality reported in Hardin County
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE HARDIN COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT:
SAVANAH, Tenn. — On January 20, 2026, at approximately 10:30 pm, emergency responders were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 70 Dixie Drive in Savannah, TN. Upon arrival, fire crews located a fire involving an RV (recreational vehicle).
Despite the rapid response and efforts by firefighters, one adult male was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene, and one person was transported to Hardin Medical for minor injuries.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin and official confirmation from the Hardin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Cause of the fire:
The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation by the Hardin County Fire Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. At this time, it appears to be accidental involving a portable propane heater. Additional updates will be provided as pertinent information becomes available.

All residents are urged to ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every level of their homes and near sleeping areas, and to review fire escape plans with household members. Fire safety remains a shared responsibility, and early detection can save lives.
