Briony Welborn wins JMCSS district-wide spelling bee
NORTHEAST JACKSON, Tenn. — Thursday students from across the Jackson-Madison County School System competed in the district-wide spelling bee.

Briony Welborn, a 7th grade student at Jackson Academic STEAM Academy, won the spelling bee.
It was held at Liberty Technology High School.
A total of 23 students from 3rd through 8th grade competed for the top prize.
The students studied a list of 400 different words to prepare for the big event.
This year’s event marks the first time JMCSS has held a district-wide spelling bee in more than 20 years.

Mila Shaw, a 5th grader at Pope School finished 2nd. Amir Harris, a 5th grader at Community Montessori finished 3rd.
After winning Thursday, Briony Welborn will participate in the online test portion to qualify for regionals.
