West Tennessee severely impacted by winter storm
JACKSON, Tenn. — The winter storm has severely impacted West Tennessee.
Most counties declared states of emergency over the weekend as conditions worsened.
Roadway conditions were extremely hazardous Sunday morning.
Officials urged residents against traveling unless absolutely necessary.
As of 12:30 Sunday afternoon, power outages across the state rose to about 301,000.
Crews were out working to clear the roads, but the extremely cold temperatures significantly hindered their efforts.
Communications systems were also down across the state due to power outages and ice damage affecting phone towers.
According to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, those disruptions limited cellular service and contributed to increased call volume and congestion on 911 systems.
