Fire destroys home in McNairy County, no injuries reported

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE MCNAIRY COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT:

MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — On 24 January 2026, at approximately 1400 hours, McNairy County Fire Department District 2, Station 1, Selmer Fire Department, and Stantonville Fire Department were paged out to a structure fire near Race Path Road.

While en route, dispatch notified arriving units that all persons were out of the home. First on scene notified personnel the structure was fully involved and fire defense tactics were put in place. The three level home, along with the frigid temperatures and freezing rain, proved tough, but personnel on scene proved tougher, and battled the flames until shortly after 1900 hours.

One cat was rescued from the home and the other two safely made it out on their own. No injuries were reported from fire units on scene. A preliminary investigation was launched for this incident, and it is presumed that a heat lamp on the front porch was the cause of the fire.

Thank you to McNairy County Emergency Communications (911), Selmer Utility Division, Pickwick Electric Cooperative, and all those who came to lend a helping hand. We are thankful for the relationships of the surrounding municipalities and agencies, and their dedication to our community.

MCFD remains committed to the people of McNairy County.
