Hub City residents prepare for lasting extreme temperatures
JACKSON, Tenn. — Hub City residents are bracing for what could potentially be the coldest days of the year.

We spent the afternoon seeing what was open and where people were shopping to get what they need.
As road conditions worsen and extreme cold is forecast to move into the entire region, essential workers began their trek back to Jackson and some needed to make some last-minute preparations.
Traffic was moving around 10 to 15 miles per hour down North Highland Avenue.

We made it to the traffic light at Campbell Street and saw a store open for business. The parking lot was packed at the Walgreens and many of the cars were left running to keep warm.

Most shoppers were there for the pharmacy, refilling essential medicine they would need before the threat for black ice increases over the next few weeks.
Nearby stores on the same stretch of Highland were closed and many of the stores along nearby North Parkway were also closed.
We didn’t drive any further from the station due to deteriorating road conditions. As a portion of melted ice refreezes Monday night, black ice is expected to be a problem Tuesday.
