SW Tennessee Electric working to restore power
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. – The Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation is actively working in hazardous conditions to restore power to customers that are without electricity.
According to Southwest, as of 9 a.m. on Monday, there are approximately 1,600 members without power. The power outages are the result of 75 active trouble spots that crews are working to restore.
Southwest posted an update on their Facebook and said the trouble spots are the result of broken poles, downed lines, and damaged equipment. They ask that members continue to be patient as they navigate the icy road conditions in order to get to trouble locations and get them repaired.
As of now, approximately 1,600 members remain without power, with crews working across 75 active trouble spots. The higher number of trouble locations means restoration takes more time, as crews must safely travel to and repair each site individually.
Ice storms cause significant damage. Broken poles, downed lines, and damaged equipment must be fully repaired before power can be safely restored to homes. Unfortunately, this type of damage simply takes longer to fix.
Our lineworkers are not just employees—they are members of the communities they serve. Many are working long hours in difficult conditions while their own homes and families may also be affected.
Please know that your cooperative remains fully committed to keeping members informed and restoring power as safely and efficiently as possible. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as crews continue this work. Members can check our live outage map at https://map.stemc.com.
