City of Jackson to extend emergency plan for freezing weather days

JACKSON, Tenn. – The City of Jackson in partnership with First United Methodist Church will extend emergency services to provide a Temporary Warming Center for homeless men, women and children for freezing weather days through Monday morning, February 2, 2026. The following plan has been devised to provide a temporary warming center for homeless men, women, and children seeking aid.

Temporary Warming Center Locations:
The City of Jackson’s T.R. White Sports Complex, located at 304 N. Hays, will continue to be the location for men seeking shelter. First United Methodist Church Mission Center (200 S. Church St.) will continue to serve as the location for women and children seeking shelter.

“As these dangerously cold temperatures continue, I want to thank the people who are stepping up when it matters most. Our donors, volunteers, first responders, and city employees are working long hours to keep others safe, and that deserves recognition. I also want to thank those that have donated, whether it be food, clothing, or monetarily. This is what it looks like when a community takes care of its own,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “I also want our unhoused neighbors to hear this clearly. Our warming shelters are open and ready for you. If you need a safe, warm place, please come in. No one should have to endure this weather alone. When conditions are this extreme, Jackson comes together, and I’m grateful for everyone who chose to show up and serve.”
