PRESS RELEASE FROM HARDIN COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:
HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — Hardin County Emergency Management has shared some safety tips for those who are seeing a return in power.
As electricity is restored, please take a few minutes to check your home for safety:
Electrical Safety
- Check outlets and cords for warmth, burn marks, or unusual smells
- Reset breakers slowly—if one trips repeatedly, leave it off and call an electrician
- Unplug major appliances before turning power fully back on to prevent surges
Plumbing & Water Safety
- As pipes thaw, watch closely for leaks, drips, or bursts
- Check under sinks, basements, crawl spaces, and outdoor spigots
- Make sure everyone knows how to shut off the main water supply
Main Water Shutoff Is Commonly Located:
- In the basement near the front wall
- In a utility room, crawl space, or garage
- Near the water heater
- In warmer climates, it may be outside near the foundation or in a ground box by the street
General Safety
-
Listen for unusual sounds like hissing water or buzzing outlets
-
