How are road conditions in local counties?
JACKSON, Tenn. — We have an update on conditions of some of the main roads in Carroll and Gibson County.
We saw completely covered roads, partially and fully cleared roads, and even an accident on our route around West Tennessee Tuesday.
Our route Tuesday took us from Jackson to Huntingdon on Highway 70, then Huntingdon to Milan on Highway 79, and Milan back to Jackson by Highway 45 East and the 45 Bypass.
Getting from Jackson to Huntingdon felt very uneasy as the winding and hilly highway 70 was very slushy through both Madison and Carroll County.
Even through communities such as leach and Cedar Grove, patches of clearing were very few and far between.
Once we reached Huntingdon, we turned left onto Highway 22 for a short distance before taking the fork that carries Highway 79.
From there we traveled through McLemoresville and Atwood, both of which had blankets of ice over the roadways.
There was a noticeable change once we crossed into Gibson County. Especially in Milan, both Highways 79 and 45 East were impressively clear.
Heading south toward Medina, we passed an accident involving an overturned pickup truck in the median.
Closer to Medina, roads were down to one lane and once we crossed back into Madison County, conditions deteriorated quickly from the county line and well into the Jackson city limits.
Remember anything that melted and didn’t dry up Tuesday is at risk for refreezing into black ice overnight.
