City of Jackson rents equipment to break up and remove ice on roads

JACKSON, Tenn. – The City of Jackson released an update on the city’s winter weather road maintenance.

Public Works Director Austin Clark gave the following update on their efforts:

“The City of Jackson continues winter weather response operations as crews continue to improve street conditions across the community. While icy conditions remain in some areas, residents should know that progress is being made daily, with noticeable improvements on primary routes, and known trouble spots. In addition to City crews, local contractors from across West Tennessee have been hired in to assist with clearing efforts, allowing more ground to be covered and accelerating the overall response.

To further support these efforts, the City has rented heavy equipment from local suppliers specifically to break up and remove compacted ice from road surfaces; equipment not typically required during standard winter events. Some of this equipment could have been seen operating along routes like Highland and North Parkway. Higher daily temperatures have also worked in our favor, helping salt and mechanical removal methods become more effective and allowing crews to safely make greater progress.

The City appreciates the continued patience of our citizens and remains committed to restoring safe travel conditions as quickly as possible.”
