PRESS RELEASE FROM THE WEAKLEY COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tennessee – [January 30, 2026] – The Weakley County Sheriff’s Office continues to mourn the tragic loss of Deputy Derrick Bonham, Badge #615, who was killed in the line of duty early Friday morning.
PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Weakley Co. deputy killed in line of duty identified as Derrick Bonham
Deputy Bonham, 37 years old, graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy on December 21, 2023. He honorably served the citizens of Weakley County with the Sheriff’s Office for nearly two years. During his service, he quickly earned the respect of his fellow deputies and the community he served. He was known as a dedicated law enforcement officer, a dependable teammate, and a man who embodied integrity, compassion, and service.
Beyond the badge, Deputy Bonham was a devoted husband to his wife, Nicole, with whom he shared nine years of marriage, and a loving father to their three young children – two sons and a daughter, ages 7, 4, and 3. His loss is immeasurable, and our hearts remain with his family as they navigate this unimaginable grief.
To assist the Bonham family during this difficult time, a memorial fund has been established at Greenfield Banking Company under the name “Bonham Memorial.” There is another fund through the Tennessee Police Benevolent Association. These are the only two verified financial assistance funds at this time. Should additional, approved fundraising efforts be established – such as a GoFundMe – they will be announced only through the official social media channels of the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office. Any fundraisers not communicated through official channels should be considered unauthorized.
In honor of Deputy Bonham’s life and service, the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office will host a Sea of Blue tribute on Sunday night, February 1, 2026. All law enforcement agencies and emergency service providers are invited to participate.

Deputy Derrick Bonham gave his life in service to others. His sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his name will forever be honored within the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office and the communities he so faithfully served. The Sheriff’s Office asks the public to continue lifting the Bonham family, Deputy Bonham’s coworkers, and all first responders in prayer during this time of mourning.
Furthermore, we remind the media that we request privacy for the family and to please be considerate when posting information about this extremely painful event in our office.
