Jackson Police Department investigating Highview Street homicide
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT:
[Jackson, TN] – The Jackson Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday evening and resulted in the death of a Jackson man.
On Sunday, February 1, 2026, shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Jackson Police Department received a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the area of the 200 block of Highview Street. Officers immediately responded to the area.
While responding, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the area without headlights. The driver of this vehicle was quickly determined to be a person of interest in the shooting and was taken into custody. Officers continued canvassing the location identified by the ShotSpotter system, which led them to the scene where multiple spent shell casings were located.
Upon arrival in the 200 block of Highview Street, officers located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 22-year-old Mark Stitts Jr. Mr. Stitts was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
