The Groundhog Says 6 More Weeks, But Storm Team 7 Says Not So Fast
Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning, so he says we’ll see six more weeks of winter before spring gets here. Aside from a chance for some cold rain on Tuesday, West Tennessee’s forecast may not line up with old Phil. We’ll show you the forecast right here.
Tonight:
Tonight’s low will hang around the mid to low 30s, so ice should be able to continue melting into the overnight hours. There will be a light breeze out of the southwest again, roughly 3-5 miles per hour. We’re also expecting cloud cover to increase, which will aid in trapping warmth to melt the ice. If you will be near any tall structures soon, be aware of falling chunks of ice!
Tuesday:
Tuesday will start with cloudy skies, but eventually showers will begin to fall into the afternoon hours. The window for showers is roughly Noon to 5 P.M.. Showers will be light mostly and the areas impacted by showers are the areas under the lowest drought impacts. Temperatures will get up to 50 degrees in some parts of West Tennessee, but a cold front behind the showers will make things cooler for a day or so.
Wednesday:
Wednesday will be a chilly day, but it will not be anything like last week. Tuesday’s rainfall will move well out of the area by sunrise Wednesday. Temperatures will get up to the upper 30s and fall down to the teens heading into the overnight hours. Fortunately this cold burst will be short-lived.
Thursday-Sunday:
This is where you may begin to wonder if the groundhog is truly a forecaster. Temperatures in the second half will be well above average and may even linger into next week. Some have been asking about rumors of another winter storm coming in after Feb. 10th, but so far long range guidance has been kind to West Tennessee and for now, we are not watching anything toward the middle and end of next week.
