Communities Outside West Tennessee Still Recovering
CORINTH, Miss. — The Town of Corinth in Alcorn County, Mississippi was among one of the hardest hit areas across the Mid-South after last month’s winter storm crippled much of North Mississippi and southern West Tennessee with destructive ice accumulations.
At one point, all 19,100 customers in Alcorn County were without power. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves visited the area recently and declared it a disaster area.
Alcorn County Electric Power Association has been hard at work since the start of the storm, especially C.E.O Sean McGrath.
McGrath has been providing recovery updates daily since he and his crews have been working.
“We worked so hard over the last 7 years to build not only in Corinth and Alcorn County but also now New Albany as well and everything that we’d worked hard to build seemed like it had been torn down overnight, but we’re determined and we’ve got a lot of determination within us,” said McGrath.
Much of the downtown area had gotten power back by Monday according to a few small business owners we spoke to.
Many of the smaller outlying unincorporated communities like Glen and Farmington were still without power Wednesday.
As of an update from around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, McGrath said the number of customers without power had finally dropped below 1,000.
McGrath tells us, “We’ve got 95% restored. That still leaves the 964, we have not forgotten about you. We’re working hard every day bringing in even more resources until we get everybody back on.”

The turnaround was so quick thanks to other co-ops from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida coming into the area to assist.
Volunteers for the Samaritan’s Purse and chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team are set up at Oakland Baptist Church located at 1101 South Harper Street in Corinth.
