City of Jackson’s Black History Month celebration kicks off
JACKSON, Tenn. — February is Black History Month and to celebrate, one community gathers to start the month off right. The City of Jackson celebrated the start of Black History Month at City Hall with a proclamation by Mayor Scott Conger, presentations by Kenzie Littrell, and music by local artist Joston Cooper.

“It’s the time to have very honest candid conversations to talk about the trials and tribulations as well as the joy and the power of family and the power of faith,” said Don McCorry, Executive Director of Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce.

City Hall will be lit with red, yellow, and green lights for the whole month to celebrate black history across the nation. The closing ceremony will be held on Friday, Feb. 27 with a poetry reading from Ian Tamayo and performances by West Bemis Chorus & Howard Ramsby.
