See a pothole? Officials share how to report it, remind drivers to watch for construction
JACKSON, Tenn. — With the winter thaw comes the dreaded potholes. They pose a risk to driver safety and can be costly.

A pothole can form when moisture seeps between the pavement then weakens it with traffic making it worse.
These are especially common in winter when precipitation pours down, freezes, thaws, refreezes, and so on.
The first winter storm of 2026 brought ice and snow. As it melts it increases the likelihood of damage to the street.
The City of Jackson’s Communications Director, Kenneth Cummings, tell us how residents can report potholes.
“We invite our residents to visit our website, to download the Jackson TN connect app, it’s an app that we launched at the fall of last year that allows people to report potholes and other city services and they can visit our website ‘3-1-1.jacksontn.gov,'” said Cummings.
The app is free to download wherever you download apps, once you install it you can navigate to the “Report an Issue” section, click pothole, fill in the contact information, location, upload photos, then submit.

As for TDOT, they also have a system to report issues through their online maintenance request form, or you can call the TDOT road repair hotline at 8-3-3-TDOTFIX.
While crews continue to patch holes throughout the state, Nichole Lawerence, regional communications officer for TDOT, wants express caution to motorists who may encounter construction.
“You know, just watch for our workers out on the road, this is day sixteen I believe since we’ve been working with snow and ice and these are the same fellas that worked snow and ice that are out there now working potholes, so just don’t drive distracted and pay attention please,” said Lawerence.
When encountering damaged streets do your best to avoid them as that can cause further damage to yourself as well as the roads. Depending on location, your city may have a different process for reporting public works issues so check with your city to see how they receive reports.
If you see a pothole be sure to help our street maintenance team locate the issue then give them patience and space to fix it.
