Super Bowl champion Barry Wilburn dies in house fire, family says

MEMPHIS (WMC/Gray News) – Former Super Bowl champion Barry Wilburn died in a house fire in Tennessee, his family confirmed Saturday. He was 62.

The Memphis Fire Department responded to a fire call in Orange Mound, Tennessee, around 2 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters found Wilburn unresponsive in a rear hallway; he was pronounced dead.

Wilburn was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1985 and played defensive back for five seasons.

He led the league in interceptions in 1987, and the team went on to win Super Bowl XXII against the Denver Broncos.
