First salary increase since 2003 approved for Jackson City Council
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson City Council’s Pay Review Committee met Tuesday to discuss and review council member compensation.

Every four years, the city develops a committee of residents and council members to review the city council’s salary.
City council members received their last raise in 2003, when their monthly pay increased from $300 to $500. The council’s salary has now been raised to $750 per month.

City councilwoman Marda Wallace explained how the committee determined the raise amount.
“We have asked our city recorder. We have gone through HR. We have done research of various towns that are similar to us ones that have seven members and, in my research, I couldn’t find a town that was lower than what we are currently being paid,” Wallace said. “We are a hub for West Tennessee. We are anticipating growth and we want to really support Jackson and know that growth is coming.”
Wallace said the pay raise would help support Jackson with its predicted growth. The pay raise is set to go into effect in 2027.
