Tennessee groups launch ‘Yes on 2’ campaign for constitutional amendment
TENNESSEE — The Tennessee Farm Bureau, Tennessee Realtors and the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce announced the launch of the “Yes on 2” campaign Monday.
The campaign supports Amendment Two, a measure that would prohibit a state property tax in Tennessee’s constitution.
Only local governments in Tennessee collect property taxes, but state law still allows for a state property tax.
Governor Bill Lee is serving as the statewide chairman. He said a statewide property tax would be overpowering for Tennesseans.
“A statewide property tax would devastate homeowners, family farms, and small businesses across Tennessee,” Lee said.
Lee also said Tennesseans should never be double taxed.
“You should never be double taxed by collecting it at the state level too,” he said.
State Representative Tandy Darby will serve as the West Tennessee chair for the campaign.
