Brave souls are ‘freezing for a reason’ to benefit Special Olympics TN

JACKSON, Tenn.—This Valentine’s Day some West Tennesseans really wanted to show how much they care and at one local event they did just that!

The Jackson Polar Plunge took place Saturday morning at Aloha Custom Pools.

The annual event invites participants to wear a costume and take a plunge into a pool filled with freezing cold water.

Saturday’s big event kicked off at 10 a.m. with a fantastic turn out.

Registration was just $10 and participants could compete individually or in teams. Plungers are asked to raise a minimum of $50-$75 to take part.

Funds raised benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Tennessee to provide training and competition needs in the Jackson region.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had it. We got it going. This will be an annual event and we had over thirty plunges here today all across West Tennessee making the plunge for the Special Olympics. I’m very excited! We’ve definitely raised a few thousand dollars at this point,” said Tim Stratton, Director of Special Olympics.

Awards as well as prizes were handed out for the Best Costumes and the Top Fundraisers. Each plunger also received a medal.
