Crockett County teen auditions for American Idol
JACKSON, Tenn. — A Crockett County teen got the chance to audition for one of the country’s biggest talent shows.
Braxton Gibson, 16, joined over one million singers across the nation for a chance to audition for American Idol. After passing the initial interview and performance rounds, Gibson traveled to Nashville last fall to audition at Belmont University.
He performed live in front of judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie.

“I think I was like really really nervous for this and I was like why am I nervous? This isn’t normal and I got in the room and it was just so crazy,” Gibson said.
Instead of advancing to Hollywood, the judges recommended Gibson wait a few years and audition again.
“As soon as I got done, Carrie Underwood said wow I just feel like you’re in the wrong place but then she kind of like referred it as a good thing and how I’m such a performer and like no I’m not meant for American Idol but I’m meant for Broadway in New York,” Gibson said.
Gibson auditioned with “Who’s Loving You” by the Jackson Five. He has been passionate about the performative arts since he was eight years old.

Gibson shared advice for anyone considering following their dreams.
“Do not ever give up and I know it sounds so cliche, but it’s true,” he said.
