Near Record Highs Thursday, Chilly Weekend, Few Showers In-Between

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

We made it up to around 70° today in West Tennessee and we will be even warmer on Thursday. Highs on Thursday will reach up to the mid 70s near record highs. The record on Thursday is 77° set back in 2018. The reason we were so warm today was due to the southerly winds increasing the dew point as gulf moisture streams into the region. The next front will pass Thursday night and could bring a few showers or weak storms with it between sunset and midnight on Thursday. A second, mostly dry front, is coming through Friday night and that will allow temperatures to fall quickly into the weekend. Catch the full forecast coming up here.

THIS WEEK:

The next system got a little closer on Wednesday and tried to spark up a few showers but most of the rain that showed up didn’t reach the ground and fell as virga (rain that evaporates before it reaches the surface). Severe weather and widespread rain is not in the forecast Wednesday night but a shower or two cannot be ruled out. Rain Chances are 20% overnight; most of us will miss out on the rain. The winds were a bit breezy at times out of the southwest and that make for a humid day and a humid night on the way. Highs make it up to around 70° with mostly cloudy skies falling short of the record by about 5°. Another warm and humid night is coming Wednesday night into Thursday morning with overnight lows again only dropping to around 60°.

The next front is going to move through late Thursday and could bring a round of rain showers and some weak storms with it. As of now, the main threat for severe weather looks to be just north of us, but if the system shifts even a little bit, it could become a bigger concern for us as it slides by. We will need to monitor the situation as the shower’s begin to develop into the late afternoon. As of now, rain chances are 30-40% in the late evening and early nighttime hours on Thursday into Friday morning. Highs on Thursday are going to be close to record highs in the mid to upper 70s. It will again be another humid and windy day with partly to mostly cloudy skies. The record is 77° set back in 2012 and could be tied in Jackson.

As the front moves through Thursday night, lows will start to drop and expect to kick off our Friday around 50°. Highs on Friday will depend on when the cooler air behind the front moves in, but we are expecting highs to reach the mid 60s still on Friday before seeing temperatures continuing to fall off into the weekend behind another front Friday night into Saturday morning. The winds will come out of the northwest most of the day on Friday and some showers or weak storms will be possible in the early morning hours before clearing out by sunrise. The late front Friday night looks like a mostly dry front, but a shower or two again cannot be ruled out again into early Saturday morning. Friday night lows will be a little cooler falling down to the low 40s to kick off the weekend.

THIS WEEKEND:
Temperatures are going to be cooler this weekend back down to around normal for this time of the year behind back to back late week fronts. Highs on Saturday will reach the mid to upper 50s but highs on Sunday will only make it up to the mid 40s as the cooler air will continue to move in behind the fronts. Saturday night we will see temperatures fall back down into the low 30s for the first time in well over a week. Sunday night lows will fall back down below freezing with morning lows in the mid 20s to kick off next week. The winds will come out of the northeast on Saturday and northwest on Sunday. It is going to be a bit breezy all weekend long as the return of winter like temperatures push in behind the front. Expect a partly cloudy day on Saturday but a mostly sunny day on Sunday. Sunny skies and chilly weather is on the way to kick off next week.
