Few Evening Storms Tonight, Another Shot Friday Evening & a Chilly Weekend Coming!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

We hit 78° today in Jackson setting the high temperature record today. The previous record was 77° set back in 2018. It was the 2nd warmest day on record for the first 20 days of February. Severe storms are popping up to the north of us and as the front moves through later tonight, a broken line of showers and storms may develop in West Tennessee between 7pm and Midnight. If the line fills in, it will come through Jackson sometime around 9-10pm. There is another shot for a few storms Friday evening/night, but most of those will be near the Mississippi border. Another front will pass by Saturday morning and nighttime lows will fall into the 20s for a few mornings starting this weekend. Catch the full forecast coming up here.

THIS WEEK:

The next front is going to move through late Thursday and could bring a round of rain showers and some weak storms with it this evening and early tonight. As of now, the main threat for severe weather looks to be just north of us, but if the system shifts even a little bit, it could become a bigger concern for us as it slides by. We will need to monitor the situation this evening as the shower’s begin to develop after the sun goes down. As of now, rain chances are 30-40% in the late evening and early nighttime hours on Thursday into Friday morning. About half of of West Tennessee is under a 1/5 (marginal risk) for severe storms tonight. Highs on Thursday were near record highs in the mid to upper 70s in West Tennessee. We did set the record in Jackson reaching up to 78° for the first time since Christmas Eve. It was another humid and windy day with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Gusty winds will be the main threat with storms that pop up later tonight. Tornadoes and large hail seem unlikely in our area this time.

As the front moves through Thursday night, lows will start to drop and expect to kick off our Friday in the mid 40s. Highs on Friday will depend on when the cooler air behind the front moves in, but we are expecting highs to reach up to around 60° on Friday before seeing temperatures continuing to fall off into the weekend behind another front Friday night into Saturday morning. The winds will come out of the northwest most of the day on Friday and any showers Thursday night should wrap up well before the sun comes up on Friday. The late front Friday night looks like a mostly dry front, but another round of showers and storms could go up in our southern counties in the first of the two fronts stalls out and tries to drift back up to the north a bit. We are again under a level 1 (marginal risk) for severe storms in our counties that border Mississippi. Friday night lows will be a little cooler falling down to the low 40s to kick off the weekend.

THIS WEEKEND:

Temperatures are going to be cooler this weekend back down to around normal for this time of the year behind back to back late week fronts. Highs on Saturday will reach the mid to upper 50s but highs on Sunday will only make it up to the mid 40s as the cooler air will continue to move in behind the fronts. Saturday night we will see temperatures fall back down to around 30° for the first time in well over a week. Sunday night lows will fall back down below freezing with morning lows in the low to mid 20s to kick off next week. The winds will come out of the northeast on Saturday and northwest on Sunday. It is going to be a bit breezy all weekend long as the return of winter like temperatures push in behind the front. Expect a partly cloudy day on Saturday but a mostly sunny day on Sunday. Sunny skies and chilly weather is on the way to kick off next week.

NEXT WEEK:

Next week is going to start out cold but the cold spell will only last for a couple days. Both Monday and Tuesday mornings will be in the low 20s but by Wednesday morning, southerly winds will come back and we should start our middle of the week mornings back to around 40°. We will see plenty of sunshine to kick off the week but highs on Monday will only reach around 40°. We should be close to 50° on Tuesday and back to the mid 60s by Wednesday. The week will start out dry but there might be another round of storms and showers coming in late in the day on Wednesday before clearing out Thursday afternoon. The timing of the front will play a big part in if we get severe weather out of the system coming in next week.
