Gibson County Memorial Library to receive renovation grant

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Gibson County, Tennessee Gibson County Government is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $486,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to fund extensive interior and exterior renovations of the Gibson County Memorial Library.

This project seeks to update the building by replacing windows, paneling, floors, and light fixtures.

The renovations of the 5,000-square-foot building are set to be completed by the end of 2026 and are phase one of the larger plan for library improvement. The Gibson County Memorial Library Foundation is working to raise funds for a 7,000-square-foot addition to the north end of the building, which will include private study rooms and a 58-chair community meeting space.

During construction, the library will experience service disruptions, but staff will make a concerted effort to ensure patrons can get what they need. Regular updates on the project’s progress and service adjustments will be available on the library’s website, www.gcmlibrary.org, and its social media pages.

The Gibson County Library, currently under the administration of Sarah Martin, MSIS, was established in 1932 and has been in its current building since 1968. The library houses approximately 22,000 volumes and offers free and low-cost programs and services to all who reside, work, or attend school in Gibson County.
