Haywood County firefighters battled weekend fire for several hours
WHITEVILLE, Tenn. – At approximately 7:41 a.m. on February 21, 2026, Haywood County Central Dispatch received a report of a residential structure fire at 2180 Hillville Loop, Whiteville, Tennessee. The caller reported that the wood-frame residence was fully involved at the time of the call.
Haywood County Fire units were dispatched and arrived on scene to find the residence heavily involved in fire. All occupants were confirmed to be safely out of the home upon firefighters’ arrival.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Stanton Fire Department, and Haywood County Ambulance Service responded to the scene in support of firefighting operations. Approximately 30 firefighters worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. However, a small dog was unable to escape the residence due to the rapid spread of the fire and did not survive.
Preliminary investigation indicates the fire began in the garage area of the residence. Witnesses reported hearing a large explosion from the garage area just before the fire progressed rapidly through the structure.
The cause and origin of the fire will be investigated by an outside agency.
Haywood County Fire extends its sincere thanks to members of the community who came to the scene to support first responders, including those who provided food and other assistance during the prolonged firefighting effort.
