HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn.–The Henderson County Commission had their quarterly meeting Tuesday evening.

Commissioners covered a variety of things like public safety, financial policy, and changes to the county.

Fiscal matters seemed to be the main topic of discussion throughout the meeting. For the county’s tax payers, the county’s financial responsibility is important in the minds of many Henderson County residents.

“Well, some of the items that we discussed (Tuesday night), that’s going to be meaningful for Henderson County, is that we were awarded a Financial Excellence Award by the state of Tennessee by the comptrollers office, that really showcases how well our finance department has done over the past two years,” said Henderson County Mayor Robbie McCready.

The comptroller’s Financial Excellence Award recognizes local governments that have maintained excellence in budgeting, debt management, and financial transparency. County Mayor McCready also provided space for attendees to recognize the local services in Henderson County that got their neighbors through the storm earlier this year.

“A special thanks to our first responders, our fire departments our volunteers, that worked there, Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, one of the biggest assets we have is the Henderson County Highway Department, they stayed on the road, 24/7, and our roads in Henderson County although we had a lot of ice, our highway department did a phenomenal job and id like to give a shout out to our EMS workers,” said Mayor McCready.

Various department heads were in attendance to discuss changes and updates going through the community.
The sheriff’s department mentioned new equipment for the local jail, and commissioners also considered a matter involving an emergency shelter generator, both of which they discussed funds.

The Henderson County Commission meetings are open to local residents and they typically meet every quarter, on Tuesdays, around 6 in the evening.
