For Second Degree Murder, the Court sentenced Davis to serve the maximum sentence in the Range for which the defendant qualified, 25 years at 100% and the maximum sentence in his Range of 12 years for each Count of Attempted Second Degree Murder. The sentences for the three Counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder will run concurrent to each other but will be consecutive to the Second-Degree Murder sentence. For the three Counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Davis was sentenced to 3 years at 100%, consecutive to the sentences for Second-Degree Murder and the three Counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder. His 4-year sentence for Felony Reckless Endangerment and 11-month 29-day sentences for the three Counts of Assault will run concurrently. This is a total effective sentence of 40 years to serve in the Tennessee Department of Correction.
On February 10, 2023, after attending a basketball game at Ripley High School, Kevion Davis drove co-defendant Bishop Owens and intentionally pursued a vehicle occupied by four teenagers who were traveling back to Brownsville. Both Davis and Owens shot at the other vehicle multiple times, which was driven by the 18-year-old brother of another party with whom Davis and Owens had a dispute. Christine Michael, a 16-year-old passenger was shot and killed, and another 13-year-old passenger was also struck by the gunfire.

“Christine Michael was an Honor Student and the President of her class at Haywood County High School. She was an intelligent, hard-working, and beautiful young lady, with her whole life ahead of her. The defendant, through his violent acts, stripped that bright future from her without any hesitation or regard for her life. Davis also endangered the lives of the other three young people in the vehicle, and we are grateful they were not more seriously injured. We especially keep Christine’s Mother in our prayers for her enormous loss. We thank the Haywood County jurors for holding Davis accountable for his violent acts. We also thank the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, particularly lead investigator Lt. Scott Hunter, the Brownsville Police Department, the Ripley Police Department, and the T.B.I. for their diligent work in this case. Our Office will continue focusing on prosecuting violent crimes and removing dangerous offenders like Davis from our safe communities.”
This case was prosecuted by District Attorney Frederick H. Agee and Assistant District Attorney Nina W. Seiler.
