Blackburn says State of the Union highlighted Republican accomplishments

WASHINGTON D.C. – President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union address to the 119th Congress on Tuesday, February 24. The address lasted for 1 hour and 47 minutes.  Shortly after the address was complete, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R- Tenn.) released a statement saying the president’s State of the Union address showed the accomplishments of Republicans while the president has been in office.

“The state of our union is stronger than ever, and President Trump did a tremendous job laying out the accomplishments Republicans have achieved over the last year on the issues that matter most to the American people,” said Senator Blackburn. “President Trump is digging us out of Joe Biden’s economic ditch, ensuring Americans can keep more of their hard-earned tax dollars, deporting illegal aliens, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, locking up violent criminals, protecting children from chemical and surgical mutilation, and restoring common sense across the federal government. This is what an American comeback looks like.”- said Sen. Blackburn

Many Democratic Congress members skipped the address and refused to attend. There were few Democrats that did choose to attend. Congressman Al Green (D-Texas) was one of those and, for the second year in a row, was removed from the chamber after launching his own form of protest during the address.

Others, such as Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) could be heard shouting at President Trump and calling him a liar.

During the address, Trump recognized the United States Olympic gold medal winning hockey team members. He also recognized members of the National Guard that were shot in Washington D.C. in November.
