JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Republican Party has released a statement regarding the removal of General Sessions Judge Mark Patey from the Republican Primary ballot.

The Madison County Republican Party Executive Committee has made a unanimous recommendation to reinstate General Sessions Judge Mark Patey to the Republican Primary ballot.
The request was made to State Republican Party Committee Man Jimmy Harris of Madison County, State Republican Committee Woman Shannon Haynes of Crockett County, and State Party Chairman Scott Golden. The request was made Thursday February 26th following the temporary removal of Judge Patey which also occurred on February 26th.
Prior to the temporary removal, the local Party Executive Committee met on Tuesday February 24th to review all candidates who had filed to run as Republicans in Madison County.
The Committee took no action on Judge Patey after considering his voting record and extensive support of the local party and Republican candidates. Jimmy Harris, Shannon Haynes, and State Chairman Golden attended that meeting by Zoom. Members Harris and Haynes, nor any other member made any motion or suggestion to remove Judge Patey that evening.
When the temporary removal was announced, the members of the committee were shocked. We believe the Republican voters are capable and best suited to decide between our two fine candidates, accomplished attorneys and faithful Republicans Jen Free and Mark Patey. Both have extensive activity within the Republican Party and the legal field. We believe in and encourage fair elections, spirited campaigns, and the voters deciding the winner at the ballot box.
Since the local Executive Committee only recommends and the 3 member panel makes the final decision, we strongly encourage the reinstatement of Judge Mark Patey.
