Rainy Week Likely, Lunar Eclipse Forecast Update
Meteorological Spring’s first week is lined with several days of expected rainfall. We’ll also take a look at the forecast for Tuesday morning’s total lunar eclipse. Your forecast details are right here.
Monday:
Showers will likely linger off and on through the Noon hour on Monday. Most of the rain will be concentrated north of I-40. Temperatures will climb to the mid-60s with skies remaining mostly cloudy after the rain. These same mostly cloudy skies are likely going to inhibit our ability to see the lunar eclipse overnight into Tuesday morning.
Tuesday:
Tuesday will be the driest day of the work week. Skies will see some clearing in the afternoon and temperatures will be well into the 70s. Winds will be breezy out of the south around 10 to 15 MPH. Cloud cover will return heading into the evening and temperatures will struggle to fall below 60 degrees.
Wed.-Sat.:
We could see several days of rain in a row across West Tennessee from Wednesday through Saturday. Each day carries at least a 40% chance of showers and a chance of thunderstorms across a couple of the days. NWS Memphis suggests there is a chance that the likely outcome is a widespread 3-5 inches of rainfall over the course of the week. Locally heavy rainfall could bring some totals up to 7 inches. As we are in a significant drought across much of West Tennessee, the rain is needed, but this will lead to localized flooding concerns. We’ll be watching our rivers closely as we get through the week.
Thoughts:
Showers are happening this week. There is no avoiding it once Wednesday night rolls in. Right now, we are not expecting severe weather across the Mid-South, but the system bringing the rain has the Storm Prediction Center’s eyes as there are outlooks in the Plains and Western Arkansas later in the week.
