WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

For the second day in a row we set the high temperature record in Jackson. We hit 79° earlier and the previous record was 77°. We should hit another record on Friday climbing above 80° again. There were a couple of weak storms this morning and a few showers are still lingering north of I-40 this afternoon. Most of us will be dry on Friday, but heavy rain and likely some storms will move in Saturday morning. As of now, the timing is looking pretty good for us to avoid a severe weather outbreak, but storms are still expected and a few severe storms surely remain possible. THIS WEEK:

Both Thursday and Friday highs will be around 80° near record highs. The record on Thursday is 77° and it was broken when we hit 79° in Jackson Thursday afternoon. The record on Friday is 80° and probably will fall as well. We will see a mix of sun and clouds both days. Also, both days, a few showers or weak storms cannot be ruled out just due to the heat and humidity alone. There was some shower and weak storm activity Thursday morning but most of the activity stayed north of Madison county. a few lingering showers will continue in the evening hours with again, most if not all of them staying north of I-40. Strong storms or severe weather in our area though is not expected until possibly Saturday morning/afternoon. The winds will stay out of the south both days and morning lows will hang around the low to mid 60s. There was a better chance for the showers and storms on Thursday, but a few could pop on Friday so we will need to monitor things through the work week.

THIS WEEKEND:

Showers and storms are expected to return this weekend to West Tennessee. The timing and severity of the event are still being determined but as of now, storm chances are 90% on Saturday and 20% on Sunday morning as the system clears out by the time the sun comes up. Highs will reach the low to mid 70s on Saturday and low 70s on Sunday. The winds will come out of the southwest on Saturday before turning to the west or northwest for a bit on Sunday and the frontal system will finally push back down to the south of us. Expect a mostly cloudy weekend for the Mid South. The system is coming in from the west so we are not expecting much of a temperature drop on Monday next week. Sunday night lows will fall down to the mid 50s by Monday morning and the skies should clear out some.

Heavy rain is coming in early in the day on Saturday. The earlier the better for us to avoid any severe weather. That being said, we are going to see storms regardless of when the line comes through. We are expecting the rain to reach Jackson in the late morning or early afternoon hours. The first round of rain should wrap up by 3pm but we need to watch for some late evening storms trying to come up from the south from Arkansas and Mississippi. Those late storms could move into our southern counties and will have a better shot of producing severe weather. The good news is, confidence is much lower in the late evening storm threat. We are highly confident though, in the early day heavy rain and weaker storms coming through.

NEXT WEEK:

There will be some isolated pop up showers and storms on Monday, but we are not expecting the type of storms to warrant a severe weather concern. There is a more concerning set up coming in the middle of next week. The timing appears to be sometime from Tuesday night through Wednesday night. Severe weather seems likely with that event, but again it will depend a lot on the timing of the event for us. We will be watching that set up closely early next week. Highs will reach the upper 70s on Monday, low 80s on Tuesday and around 80° on Wednesday. Morning lows will only fall to the mid 60s due to the high humidity and dew point that will be sticking around for the first half of the week. We could again be near record highs and the humidity could be intense at times in the middle of next week. Expect a mix of sun and clouds most of the week as well.
