Boston lead singer Tommy DeCarlo dies at 60

(Gray News) – Tommy DeCarlo, the lead singer of the classic rock band Boston, died on Monday. He was 60.

DeCarlo’s family confirmed his death on Facebook, noting that he’d been diagnosed with brain cancer last September. “He fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end,” the family said. “During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another.”

His diagnosis was discovered after he “suffered a sudden brain bleed and underwent an emergency craniotomy,” a GoFundMe created for him in late 2025 explained. “During surgery, doctors discovered two melanoma masses on his brain and another spot on his lungs.”

Boston was formed in 1975, with Brad Delp as the lead singer. Delp remained with the band for most of its run until his death in 2007. That’s when DeCarlo became the main vocalist after being discovered by guitarist Tom Scholz.

The band is known for songs including “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind” and “Amanda.”

Boston’s 1976 self-titled debut is one of the best-selling albums by an American rock band, being certified 17× Platinum by the RIAA as of 2025.

DeCarlo later formed his own band, DECARLO, along with his son, Tommy DeCarlo Jr. He released two albums as a solo artist.
