Next Storm Threat Coming Wednesday to West Tennessee!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

The storm threat in West Tennessee is wrapping up during the 4pm hour, but some pockets of brief heavy rain and the occasional lightning strike will continue over the next few hours. There could be a few isolated 30 MPH wind gusts and the activity, for the most part, will be over by the time the sun goes down. Tuesday is going to be a mostly dry and warm day before the next system gets here on Wednesday. Wednesday appears to be West Tennessee’s biggest severe storm threat of the Spring so far. We are not going to get as lucky on the timing of this system like we did the last few storm systems moving. Strong storms look likely Wednesday afternoon in our area and across the Mid South. Gusty winds appear to be the main threat at this time but we will be under some sort of a tornado threat as well. We should be able to pinpoint what locations should be the most concerned as well as more on the time frame of the event coming up over the next 36 hours. We will have the latest radar tracking and more on Wednesday’s storm threat coming up here.

THIS WEEK:

We had some scattered storms and rain showers move through West Tennessee Monday afternoon but most should taper off pretty quickly this evening. A few isolated showers or even a weak storm could move through tonight but most of us will be dry after sunset until Wednesday afternoon. The clouds will stick around tonight and the winds will stay light and come out of the south around 5-10mph. Temperatures will not cool off much under the clouds and we should only fall to the mid 60s by Tuesday morning.

Tuesday is going to be a very nice day but it is going to be a bit humid by the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will make it up to around 80° and we should see plenty of clouds. The sun may peak through at times but we will definitely see more clouds than sunshine. The winds will start out light or but will still have a southerly component to them most of the day. Tuesday night lows will fall down to the mid to upper 60s. A few storms could show up Tuesday night into Wednesday morning but most of us will stay dry till the middle of the day on Wednesday.

Our greatest storm threat of the Spring so far appears to be on the way to West Tennessee on Wednesday. The main reason this one could be a bit more concerning for us will be due to the timing of the event. Instead of coming in during the morning hours, the main timing this go around appears to be in the afternoon or early evening hours when our storm potential will be at its highest. We are already under a level 2/5 (slight risk) and an upgrade to a 3/5 seems possible for some of us. Gusty winds still look like the main threat but a couple tornadoes will be possible for sure into the afternoon hours.

Highs on Wednesday will reach the mid 70s and we are expecting a mostly cloudy day. If the sun comes out in the mid to late morning that could increase the storm potential as well. Some early morning showers would also help to weaken the storms some as well. So there are still a few variables that could help or hurt the storm forecast for us. The winds will be quite breezy at times with the approaching front and come out of the southwest before moving to the northwest Wednesday night into Thursday morning as the cold front passes by. We should fall all the way down to around 40° on Wednesday night.

Thursday and Friday are looking like really nice days for all of West Tennessee. Thursday will be cooler with highs reaching the upper 50s and Friday we should warm back up to the upper 60s to near 70°. The humidity will be low on Thursday but will increase some this weekend again. Thursday night lows will fall down to around 40° and even some upper 30s will be possible for some of us. Friday night lows will be higher, but it will still be a bit chilly to kick off the weekend into the mid 40s. Expect sunny skies for the most part on Thursday and Friday and the winds will come out of the north on Thursday but slowly move back to the south during the day on Friday!

THIS WEEKEND:
The weekend is going to be a tale of two days for us here in West Tennessee. Saturday is going to be a great day with highs in the mid to upper 70s with plenty of sunshine. The winds will come out of the south around 10mph and showers and storms are not expected on Saturday. Saturday night the humidity will increase a bit with morning lows falling down to around 60° on Sunday. The winds will kick up some on Sunday and more clouds will move on it as the day goes on. Storm chances will return on Sunday towards the back half of the day as a strong cold front is going to come racing through West Tennessee. Severe storms cannot be ruled out at this time. Highs will still reach the mid to upper 70s on Sunday but as the front passes Sunday night, temperatures will plummet all the way down to the mid 30s and not warm up much at all during the day on Monday.
