Storm Threat Increasing on Wednesday for us Here in West Tennessee!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
There will be a few isolated showers or weak storms this evening and tonight, but the main concern will be coming tomorrow between noon and 8pm here in West Tennessee. There is a low confidence, potential high impact concern, for some supercells, between noon and 4pm in West Tennessee. There is a decent chance none will pop up at all, but if they do, rotation will likely occur with any cells that go up during that time frame. After 4pm, we lose rotational ingredients here in West Tennessee to produce tornadoes. We are very confident there will be storms between 4pm-8pm, but they will predominantly be mostly linear (straight line winds) as they come through along the leading edge of the cold front. We should fall all the way down into the 30s by Thursday morning. There is another front coming by on Sunday that could bring some storms, but it is going to bring a return of winter behind it. 20s are expected Monday night for most of us. Catch the latest coming up here.
THIS WEEK:
Tuesday was a very nice day but it is going to be a bit humid by the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will make it up to the low 80s and we should see plenty of clouds. The sun peaked through at times but we will definitely see more clouds than sunshine. When the sun showed up in the afternoon, we were able to tie the record high of 82° in Jackson. The previous record was 82° set back in 1986. The winds started out light but increased and had a southerly component to them most of the day. IT was quite breezy in the afternoon hours. Tuesday night lows will fall down to the mid to upper 60s. A few storms could show up Tuesday night into Wednesday morning but most of us will stay dry till the middle of the day on Wednesday.
Our greatest storm threat of the Spring so far appears to be on the way to West Tennessee on Wednesday. The main reason this one could be a bit more concerning for us will be due to the timing of the event. Instead of coming in during the morning hours, the main timing this go around appears to be in the afternoon or early evening hours when our storm potential will be at its highest. We are already under a level 2/5 (slight risk) and an upgrade to a 3/5 seems possible for some of us. Gusty winds still look like the main threat but a couple tornadoes will be possible for sure into the afternoon hours if we get any rotating supercells to go up out in front of the main line.
Highs on Wednesday will reach the mid 70s and we are expecting a mostly cloudy day. If the sun comes out in the mid to late morning that could increase the storm potential as well. Some early morning showers would also help to weaken the storms some as well. So there are still a few variables that could help or hurt the storm forecast for us. The winds will be quite breezy at times with the approaching front and come out of the southwest before moving to the northwest Wednesday night into Thursday morning as the cold front passes by. We should fall all the way down below 40° on Wednesday night.
Thursday and Friday are looking like really nice days for all of West Tennessee. Thursday will be cooler with highs reaching the upper 50s and Friday we should warm back up to the upper 60s to near 70°. The humidity will be low on Thursday but will increase some this weekend again. Thursday night lows will fall down to around 40° and even some upper 30s will be possible for some of us. Friday night lows will be higher, but it will still be a bit chilly to kick off the weekend into the mid 40s. Expect sunny skies for the most part on Thursday and Friday and the winds will come out of the north on Thursday but slowly move back to the south during the day on Friday!
