Toyota announces recall of 550,000 vehicles for seatback issue
(Gray News) – Toyota is recalling more than 550,000 vehicles because of a seatback issue.
The recall affects 2021 through 2024 hybrid and gas-only Highlanders.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the second-row seats in the recalled Highlanders do not always lock back into position after an adjustment.
Seatbacks that fail to lock may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, which could lead to injury, according to NHTSA.
Dealers will correct the seats free of charge by replacing the return springs in the seatback recliner.
A letter notifying owners of affected vehicles will be sent by April 20. Customers can also contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
