MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) – A woman has been charged with identity theft after she allegedly posted a man’s arrest warrant that contained personal information on social media.
Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones said Emilee Berger, 48, posted a copy of a man’s arrest warrant to a Facebook group that listed personal information, including his Social Security number, date of birth, driver’s license number and full name.

Detectives spoke to the man who said he did not give anyone permission to publish his personal information.
Berger told detectives that she redacted the information after being notified by another person and reposted the warrant to social media, Jones said.
The next day, Berger created another post in the group acknowledging the warrant had been originally posted without the information being redacted, Jones said.
“The copy of the warrant that appeared on Facebook contained a visible line through the document. Detectives determined that this line is automatically applied when documents are scanned into the Monroe County court system,” Jones said. “The original warrant does not contain this line, indicating that the copy posted on social media originated from the Monroe County Clerk of Court’s electronic system and was transferred to Ms. Berger by an individual who had authorized access to the system.”
Detectives spoke with the Monroe County court clerk, who requested an audit of the court system.
The audit determined the system was accessed by two people between when the warrant entered the system and when it appeared on social media. Jones said no employee with the sheriff’s office or the clerk’s office accessed the case during that time.
“Because the warrant posted on social media contained unredacted personal identifying information, detectives determined that a criminal offense had occurred,” Jones said.
Berger was arrested and charged with identity theft on Friday. She has since been released after posting a $3,000 bond.
Jones said the investigation into how the document was accessed and distributed is ongoing.
