We’re just ahead of the first weekend of spring, and community leaders in Lexington are not wasting time making sure everyone has a place to spend the best moments of the day outdoors with a new pier.

“It’s super exciting for us as the chamber to be able to do this ribbon cutting finally, because we got to see all the work that went into it, and the day is finally here. This started way back in December, or probably even in the Fall trying to get this started,” explained Kristin Anderson, executive director of Henderson County Chamber of Commerce.

It’s a place you can go with your whole family or maybe your friends.

“It will be really great. We’ve got a gazebo that you can have picnics, birthdays parties, come and read a book if you want to. Then we have this fishing pier which is just a great addition to our community,” said Keith Wish, director for Beech River Watershed Development Authority.

Henderson County is a huge fishing community. Seniors with the Scotts Hill Bass Club help bait hooks, and give all the tips and tricks you can expect fishing. You may find bluegill, bass, krappy, catfish… there’s just a variety.

“It’s a time that we can all have together, and spend time out here on the lake and actually not have to get out on the lake. You can fish from the bank or the pier, and it’s just something that’s been needed for our community for a long time,” said Scott Barber, chairman of the Henderson County board.

According to Wish, you will need a fishing license if you are over the age of 12. During the ribbon cutting, Beech River Cruisers offered free food, fishing bait was provided by Anderson Bait Company, and free fishing rods were available.

“We always have folks coming to fish off the side there, but now they have a pier they can go out to and drop a line over there. The plans for this is to continue to just make it more accessible, make fishing more accessible for our community and our young ones that are just getting started,” said Anderson.

You can find the pier at Beech Lake at 149 Eastern Shores Drive in Lexington. There’s sure to be a place on the pier just for you and your family.
