World Bass Enterprises announces first qualifiers for championship tournament

JACKSON, Tenn. — World Bass Enterprises announced Wednesday the first five anglers to qualify for “The Champions” tournament, the first-ever World Bass Fishing championship.

Drew Gill, Takahiro Omori and Zack Birge of Major League Fishing’s Bass Pro Tour, along with Hank Cherry Jr. and Fisher Anaya of the Progressive Bassmaster Elite Series, have qualified for the event.

“The Champions” will be held outside of Nashville on Old Hickory Lake at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1.

“As soon as I heard about it, I was like, I got to sign up for that because you don’t get many opportunities in the fishing industry to compete for a lot of money that’s not just first place. So, I think as a tournament, it’s going to be super good,” Anaya said.
