City of Jackson honors Dr. Melvin Wright Sr. with street renaming

JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson has renamed a street in front of the T.R. Wright Sportsplex.

The short stretch of road formerly known as Hays Avenue is now named after Dr. Melvin Wright, Sr.

Wright is known for helping the community with their dental needs and his friendship to the east Jackson community.

“And our father always taught us how to treat people, how to be kind to people, how to love people, how to serve people, and that’s one of the attributes I thank God that I have is serving,” said Melinda Wright-Richardson, daughter of Dr. Melvin Wright, Sr.

The renamed section runs in front of the sportsplex along Hays Avenue.
