WASHINGTON, D.C.–WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News had the opportunity to speak with U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn Wednesday about President Trump’s recent trip to Memphis.

Blackburn says she had a major part in convincing President Trump to focus efforts in the Bluff City. Blackburn tells us she informed FBI Director Cash Patel of the crime stats in Memphis and asked for his direct help with getting crime under control.

“So Attorney General Bondi and Director Patel took the issue to the president and we established, the president said ‘let’s go forward, establish the Memphis Safe Task Force’, which brought 30 different agencies to work together,” said Senator Blackburn.

We also asked her about the ‘Save America Act’ and how Congress is working around the clock to pass the bill.

“We are here in D.C. working overtime if you will, nonstop trying to get the ‘Save America Act’ passed. That would require other states across the country to do what we do in Tennessee. You know, we have the most secure election in the country,” Senator Blackburn added.

The ‘Save America Act’ would require voters to have proof of U.S. citizenship to be able to cast their ballot.
