Jackson-Madison County Schools honors Teachers of the Year during luncheon
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School District awarded their Teachers of the Year at a celebration that included food and entertainment by students.

School leaders gave remarks during the awards thanking their teachers for their work. District leaders presented awards for school level, district level, and teacher overall.

Chandra Brafa, this year’s overall winner, said being a teacher requires passion and care.
“You have to love kids, you have to love teaching,” Brafa said. “I consider it, it’s more than just teaching academics, it is teaching kids life skills, it’s letting them feel that they are cared for, that they are loved and that they’re seen.”
Each award was delivered with flowers and an umbrella. Teachers were invited to memorialize the moment with a photo.

Dr. Michael Morris, principal of the Jackson Academic STEAM Academy, said having one of his teachers represent their school means everything.
“She does an excellent job, and it’s not an excellent job as a job, it’s her care and commitment for kids,” Morris said. “You see the growth in the kids everyday throughout the year, and if there’s anybody that should be nominated, she’s definitely that person.”
District leaders say recognizing teachers like this is one way to highlight the impact happening inside classrooms every day.
