CEDAR GROVE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A parent whose child was reportedly on the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s bus that was involved in a fatal crash in Carroll County on Friday has confirmed to WSMV4 details about the trip the students were on.
Suzy Butler, a parent of a Kenwood Middle School student, confirmed to WSMV4 that the field trip bus was carrying STEM students from Montgomery County to Jackson for a GreenpowerUSA event.
Butler said that there were about 24 students and four teachers on the trip. The students had been working on a Greenpower curriculum all year, which involved building a car or cart from the ground up.
According to GreenpowerUSA, the Toyota Hub City Grand Prix was scheduled for March 27-28 at the Rockabillys Baseball Stadium in Jackson, Tennessee.
According to the list of registered teams for the event, Kenwood Middle 52 and 72 are listed among the Int Stock Division.
The event’s schedule listed arrivals for Friday afternoon that would lead into practice sessions. On Saturday, teams were set to arrive in the morning before Heat 1 for Middle Schools which began at 9 a.m., with Heat 3 for Middle Schools at 1 p.m., with the awards ceremony set for 5 p.m.

CMCSS reports that the school bus was transporting a group of Kenwood Middle School students and employees to Jackson for a field trip on Friday.
The bus was involved in a crash in Carroll County and families of all of the occupants on the bus have been contacted.
