JACKSON, Tenn.–Lane College issues a statement after Saturday night’s fatal shooting on campus.

Read the full statement below:

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of a Lane College student following a tragic and isolated incident that occurred on campus on the evening of Saturday, March 28th.

The campus operates under a strict weapon-free policy, which remains in effect, and is taking precautions to ensure the continued safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We are cooperating with the Jackson Police Department as their investigation remains ongoing.

News of this nature can be overwhelming. To offer support, counseling and support services are available to the campus community.

To acknowledge this loss, a candlelight vigil will be held in the coming days. To further honor the life of our fallen Lanite, the Bray Hall Building will also be illuminated in blue lights for the duration of the week.

In the days ahead, let us continue to lean on one another for strength, compassion, and support. Please keep the family, friends, and loved ones of the student in your thoughts and prayers as we honor their privacy during this incredibly difficult time.

Additional updates will be shared as appropriate via the official Lane College emails.
