JACKSON, Tenn. — One community college hosted a mock disaster on campus Tuesday—giving nursing students hands-on training for real-world emergencies.

Jackson State Community College nursing students learned how to perform medical care in various environments and situations alongside local emergency agencies.

Students rotated through roles as first responders, victims, bystanders, and triage staff in a tent set up like an ER.

This year’s theme was an active shooter scenario with 15 mock casualties and 30 students taking part.

“I think it’s amazing, especially if you’re a hands-on learner. It definitely really shows you what you could possibly be expecting when you do go into this field of study,”said Rozlyn Hensley, JSCC senior nursing student.

“Even though you may have trials and tribulations going on, even though life happens, still go for it. I say just do it with your heart, do it with your all, and just go for it,” said Sanaii Davis, JSCC senior nursing student.

Scenarios in previous years have included explosions, tornado aftermath, and more.
