Lane College student charged with reckless homicide in shooting death

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Police Department has charged 19-year-old Zavon Luckett Jr. with reckless homicide in connection with the shooting death of Devin Parker Jr., a student from Memphis.

On Saturday, March 28, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Jackson Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at Williamson Hall on the campus of Lane College. The preliminary investigation, supported by witness statements, indicates that Luckett Jr. was handling a firearm in a reckless manner when the weapon discharged, striking Parker. Parker succumbed to his injuries.

Following an investigation and a formal review by the District Attorney’s Office, Luckett Jr. was charged. He was arraigned Tuesday morning in Jackson City Court. Luckett’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 8 at 9:30 a.m.
