On October 19, 2024, after an argument with his former girlfriend with whom he shared a child, Pewitte drove from Brownsville to Bells to lay in wait for the victim to arrive at Pictsweet, her place of employment. Pewitte accosted her, stabbing her five times, three times in the face, once under her right breast, and once on her right arm. Pewitte then fled the area, dumped his vehicle at his grandmother’s residence in Humboldt, and was located by the U.S. Marshals in Memphis ten days later.

“We thank the Crockett County jurors for fulfilling their civic duty, Lt. Dustin Crawford with the Bells Police Department for his diligent investigation, the U.S. Marshals for apprehending Pewitte, and the victim for following through with her difficult trial testimony. The Honorable Judge Peeples appropriately sentenced Pewitte for committing an extremely violent act against his former domestic partner, who was also the mother of his child. Since taking office five years ago, the mission of our Office has never wavered. We prioritize removing dangerous offenders like Pewitte from our safe communities and will continue to work hard to achieve that goal.”
