Randall Baker, 41, is accused of stealing the Bud Light truck around 3 p.m. from a liquor store on North Governor Street and was found heading westbound on Diamond Avenue near Resurrection Drive.

Officials said the driver of that truck was unloading it when it was stolen, and had to jump out of the moving truck.

They said Baker refused to pull over and a chase began.

The Nashville band Tailgate Revival shared a surveillance video they got from a fan.

In the video, the Bud Light truck is spotted barreling down a street with half a dozen patrol cars in pursuit.

Deputies said the pursuit continued west toward Wadesville and then went north toward Poseyville.

Deputies used stop sticks to try to stop the truck. However, they said that was when Baker hit Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jared Zwilling’s cruiser and then crashed into a field.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office released Zwilling’s body camera footage of the crash.

In the footage, the deputy places a stop stick in the road and steps out of the road, moments before the Bud Light truck crashes into his stopped patrol car.

“When I was playing it back in my head, I thought I was a lot further away, but when I watched the video, I was pretty close… 10 yards maybe,” Zwilling said.

According to the press release, Baker also refused to get out of the truck. The body camera footage shows deputies surround the truck and use pepper ball rounds to force Baker out.

Baker was taken to the hospital for minor injuries from the crash. Authorities said Baker’s blood alcohol content was 0.103, which is over the legal limit.

Zwilling was not hurt in the crash. He said while he feels lucky to have walked away uninjured, he is sad about his cruiser.

“It didn’t really hit me about the car, my car being damaged until everything, he was in custody, and I was like ‘Oh, oh no how am I getting home?’ So it didn’t hit me until later,” Zwilling said.

He said that’s when he also had to take calls from his very worried mom.

“My mom asked me at least 10 times if I was in that car or not. I was like ‘Not in the car mom.’ And she was like ‘Are you sure? They’re saying you were in the car!’ and I was like ‘Not in the car. I don’t think I’d be here if I was in the car,” Zwilling said.

Zwilling said chasing a stolen beer truck was a first for him.

“Chasing a stolen Bud Light truck is unique. It is kind of why you sign up to be a police officer I think. I usually say foot pursuits are the Super Bowl of policing, but chasing a stolen bud light truck is definitely up there,” Zwilling said.

Baker is facing attempted murder, auto theft, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement, reckless operation of a tractor-trailer and driving while intoxicated.

He has a court hearing Thursday.
