Northeast Middle School mourns the loss of Coach Kendrick
JACKSON, Tenn. – The Jackson-Madison County School System released a statement Wednesday morning regarding the sudden death of Northeast coach Gayle Kendrick.
It is with heavy heart that I write to you today as we mourn the sudden loss of beloved Northeast Middle School coach, Gayle Kendrick. His passing has left an immeasurable void at the Northeast campus and across our district.
For the past two years, he dedicated his passion and his gifts to shaping Northeast students’ lives in the classroom and through coaching basketball, cross country, track, and FBLA. This allowed Gayle to create and foster relationships with students and colleagues every day. Living out his calling allowed him to build a legacy not only in wins or accomplishments, but in the character and confidence he inspired in others.
In moments like these, words often fall short. We are reminded of the importance of leaning on one another to offer kindness and understanding as each of us processes this loss in our own way. Our district has counselors and support staff available on campus for any student or employee who may need someone to talk to during this difficult time. Reaching out is a sign of strength, and we are here to walk alongside you.
For many in our community, faith may also offer comfort. As we approach Good Friday and Easter Sunday, we are reminded of the promise of hope – that even in the midst of sorrow, there is renewal and that love endures beyond loss. Scripture speaks to this hope, assuring us that ‘the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’ and that those we love are never truly gone but live on in the hearts and lives they have touched.
As we grieve together, let us also turn our thoughts and prayers toward Coach Kendrick’s family. They have shared him with us in countless ways, and now it is our turn to surround them with care, compassion, and support. In the coming days, we will come together as a district and community to wrap our arms around them and other encouragement during this incredibly difficult time. May we honor Coach Kendrick’s life by continuing the work he cared so deeply about – lifting one another up, showing kindness, and striving to make a positive difference each day.
With deepest sympathy and support – M
