The bus driver has been in a Memphis hospital with internal injuries and a broken leg since the crash, according to people who have known her for the last 15 years.
Dashcam video of the school bus crossing the yellow line has many wondering what happened in those final moments.
“I don’t know if there’s anything that could have been done. When you look at the video you think what happened,” said Caroline Stewart, a grandmother.
Flags remain at half staff and a memorial continues to grow outside Kenwood Middle School.
“In that video just hearing those kids it was heart breaking,” said McKayla Moss, a neighbor.
Fort Campbell said one of the victims who died had deep ties to their community. The base said they stand in solidarity with the community during this time of immense grief.
“They are never coming back. You can provide them with a little bit of support,” Stewart said.
Contributions have been pouring in on GoFundMe pages started for victims that have already amassed tens of thousands in donations.
The NTSB is investigating what happened.
