TN Secretary of State reminds Tennesseans about ‘Safe at Home’ program amid Sexual Assault Awareness Month

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE TENNESSEE SECRETARY OF STATE'S OFFICE:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Secretary of State Tre Hargett reminds Tennesseans of the ‘Same at Home’ program, a life-saving program offered through his office. The ‘Safe at Home’ Address Confidentiality Program and ‘Tennessee Businesses Against Trafficking’ continue to provide resources throughout the year to protect victims of sexual assault.

“Safe at Home is an address confidentiality program which supports victims of horrific crimes, including domestic abuse, stalking, human trafficking by offering an alternative mailing address for program participants,” said Secretary Hargett. “We want Tennesseans to know about this service available to survivors and their families during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and throughout the year.”

The ‘Safe at Home’ Address Confidentiality Program prevents abusers from locating victims through public records. This program provides approved applicants with a substitute address for legal purposes, including voter registration, driver’s licenses, and other government services, at no cost. Anyone in a program participant’s household can apply to use this substitute address, including children. Since its launch in 2019, ‘Safe at Home’ has served more than 1,900 participants through not only the work of the Secretary of State’s office, but also the dedicated assistance of more than 950 application assistants located across the entire state.

The Secretary of State’s office also offers the ‘Tennessee Businesses Against Trafficking’ (TBAT) program, which trains businesses and non-profits to how to recognize the signs of human trafficking as well as how to report it. Training courses are less than one hour and can be done in-person, virtually, or through a module to be incorporated into an organization’s onboarding and training schedule. Additional information about the ‘Safe at Home’ program can be found at SafeatHomeTN.com
